Parkmerced partners with Getaround, expands car-free living program
San Francisco – Oct. 5, 2017 – Parkmerced announced today an exclusive engagement with Getaround to bring the world’s leading peer-to-peer car sharing service to the largest multifamily rental neighborhood in San Francisco, and one of the largest privately held urban communities in California.
The announcement was made by Rob Rosania, Founder and Lead Visionary of Maximus Real Estate Partners, the developer of Parkmerced, and Sam Zaid, Getaround’s CEO.
This exclusive engagement between Getaround and Parkmerced Labs, a subsidiary of Parkmerced seen as the Bell Labs of real estate, follows Parkmerced’s exclusive partnership with rideshare service Uber announced in 2016, and continues the expansion of its Car-Free Living Program by delivering more multimodal transportation options for residents.
“Adding Getaround to the Car-Free Living Program immediately benefits our residents by increasing the affordable alternatives to private car ownership, decreasing the need for parking, and broadening the range of options to meet urban mobility challenges,” said Rosania. “Furthermore, it promotes the concept of ‘whole living’ by establishing a sustainable environment for our community.”
Getaround provides an ideal solution for longer duration trips, complementing the wide range of private and public transportation options offered by the Car-Free Living Program. Getaround also generates income for Parkmerced residents by enabling car owners to earn money with their idle cars. Getaround car owners can make thousands of dollars per year sharing their car within the trusted Getaround community.
Residents enrolled in the Car-Free Living Program can allocate to Getaround all or part of the $100 monthly incentive provided by Parkmerced, which can also be used with Uber, the world’s leading rideshare company, and Clipper, an all-in-one Bay Area transit card providing access to Muni, BART and Caltrain. Currently, more than 1,000 residents are benefiting from the Car-Free Living Program at Parkmerced.
“Getaround’s mission is to empower people to carshare everywhere as it is a vital, sustainable component of urban transportation, and Parkmerced, with its unique scale, is the ideal community in which to develop this new model in urban mobility,” said Sam Zaid, Getaround’s CEO. “We are proud to provide an alternative to car ownership, which not only reduces transportation costs by eliminating the need for car payments and auto insurance, but also results in fewer cars, less congestion and less pollution.”
“With more people seeking housing in urban cores, it is essential to find ways to improve transportation options and minimize our carbon footprint,” said Stephen Linaweaver, Partner of Parkmerced Labs. “Parkmerced Labs is committed to developing innovative urban solutions that can be replicated across the United States and globally, as demonstrated by this mobility partnership with Getaround.”
